The United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Union. The Brexit agreement entered into force at midnight on January 31 Central European Time. The website of the Council of the EU reported that.
"The Brexit agreement provides an orderly exit for Britain from the Union. It covers citizens' rights, financial settlement, transition, protocols for Ireland / Northern Ireland, Cyprus and Gibraltar, governance and other separation issues," - the statement said.
In accordance with the document, the so-called transitional period begins on Friday, and will last until December 31, 2020. Until the last day of this year, Britain will continue to apply EU laws, but will no longer be its member. This period may be extended by 1 or 2 years by mutual agreement of the parties.
As we reported, Ukraine's visa talks with Britain might begin in a year. This was stated by British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons.
Simmons explained that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had issued a decree on visa waiver for the British, as international agreements will remain in force, but in terms of domestic affairs, Britain will no longer be a member of the European Union after Brexit.
