The Omicron strain reduces the effectiveness of vaccination, and in this case the problem can be solved by booster vaccination. This was stated by the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin.

“We can now reliably say that the effectiveness of vaccination is indeed somewhat reduced against the background of the Omicron strain. The percentage of reduction now varies by about 30%.That is, this is a decrease in efficiency against the background of a full course of vaccination. Booster dose. It can be used to raise this percentage, to reduce it to 50%," Kuzin said.

According to him, the transmission rate of Omicron and the rate of infection is increasing by almost a third - both at home and at work. Infection with this strain is observed mainly in those who were vaccinated at the beginning of the vaccination campaign. The duration of the vaccine plays an important role. The first detected case of Omicron infection in Ukraine was detected in a person vaccinated with Pfizer at the beginning of the vaccination campaign.

"According to the results of clinical observations, infection with the Omicron strain leads to an easier course of coronavirus disease than with the Delta strain," he added.
