The 92nd Oscar awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles. Most of the favorites won their prizes as expected; Joaquin Phoenix, for one, claimed his trophy in the Best Performance by an Actor in a leading role nomination. However, there were certain surprises, too.
The main rattler of the night was the triumph of Parasites, the film of South Korean director Bong Joon-ho who won in the Achievement in Cinematography nomination. It is the first time ever that the foreign picture won the main award of the world's most prestigious film festival. No Hollywood specialists were involved in the making of the film.
The picture also claimed the maximum number of victories: four wins in six nominations. The Joker claimed two trophies in 11 categories; Sam Mendez's war drama 1917 took three awards in 10 nominations. Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood claimed two awards in 10 categories. Interestingly, Martin Scorsese's The Irish left without any awards whatsoever.
The full list of nominees and winners may be found on Oscar's official website.
Earlier, HBO's Chernobyl won the Golden Globe in the mini-series category.
