"On November 15, 2021, the Russian Federation recklessly conducted a destructive test of a direct-ascent anti-satellite missile against one of its own satellites," US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated, the press-service of the US State Department reports.

"This test has so far generated over fifteen hundred pieces of trackable orbital debris and will likely generate hundreds of thousands of pieces of smaller orbital debris. The long-lived debris created by this dangerous and irresponsible test will now threaten satellites and other space objects that are vital to all nations’ security, economic, and scientific interests for decades to come," said the chief US diplomat.

He also stressed that Russia's missile test would significantly increase the risk for astronauts on the International Space Station and other space missions.

According to Blinken, Russia's reckless and irresponsible behavior on November 15 shows its readiness to jeopardize the long-term stability of outer space, its exploration, and use by all countries.

The Secretary of State warned that the United States, along with allies and partners, would prepare a response to this reckless act.

On November 8 Bloomberg reported with reference to the Janes company report that Russia is moving tanks to the Ukrainian border. This time, observers noticed a battalion of T80-U tanks in the Voronezh region.

US and European Union officials expressed concern that Russia has resumed its troop build-up near the border with Ukraine.
