According to experts, 90% of patients in the EU member states with COVID-19 will acquire the Indian Delta strain by the end of August.
European leaders are sounding the alarm and urging the population for faster vaccinations. Delta has already been recorded in 135 countries of the world. This strain also got to Ukraine. And it quickly spreads across the regions.
In India, about half a million people died from it.
This strain is much more infectious compared to the original COVID-19 strain: one person can infect up to 6 people. People infected with Delta are twice as likely to be hospitalized as those infected with the British strain.
If a person is vaccinated with Pfizer, or AstraZeneca, or Sinovac, then this is not a guarantee that he will not get Delta. However, full vaccination (i.e. two doses) is predominantly a guarantee of transmission of the disease in mild forms.
Infectionists are convinced that it is possible to completely overcome the coronavirus if 98% of the population is vaccinated. And only 2% is contraindicated (in particular, for allergy sufferers).
According to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Delta is capable of causing a new wave of morbidity even before the beginning of autumn and cause irreversible and very serious consequences. The main reason is the low rates of vaccination and the lack of the required amount of vaccines.
It is already clear to everyone: vaccination is the only effective way to protect yourself from coronavirus. As of August 10, just over 4 million people were vaccinated with the first dose. Two doses were received by almost 2.5 million. According to the State Statistics Committee, more than 41 million people live in Ukraine. Herd immunity begins to develop when 75% of people are vaccinated.
Zelensky promised to vaccinate most Ukrainians by Independence Day. And this is more than 21 million.
