112.ua goes on shooting bird's eye panoramas of Ukrainian cities. This time we shoot the Northern city of Chernihiv.
Chernihiv is an ancient city, first mentioned in 907 as one of the major cities in then Kyiv Rus, second only to Kyiv.
The name of the city comes from the name of its first citizen – Chernega. Other sources state that the forests in the city were black (чёрные).
Chernihiv is famous for its ancient shrines, modern parks and its aura of the princely city.
The citadel – the so-called inner-city fortress – is the historical center of Chernihiv. Its uniqueness lies in numerous churches and monasteries at every step.
Catherine Church welcomes guests who enter the city. The Transfiguration Cathedral, preserved from the time of Kyiv Rus, is still functioning.
Chernihiv is not only a historical center, but simply a beautiful city with great number of green parks, perfect for family rest. It’s one of a handful of cities with riverboats circulating in summer.
