The creators of the Comirnaty coronavirus mRNA vaccine from BioNTech have won one of Germany's most prestigious scientific awards, the German Prize of the Future, DW reports.

The award was presented to the company's employees by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. It is noted that an important achievement of the specialists was that they managed to develop a vaccine against coronavirus in an unprecedentedly short time, complete its clinical trials and obtain registration.

The monetary part of this award for achievements in the field of technology and innovation is 250,000 euros. At the same time, the German Prize of the Future is awarded not only for innovative ideas. The Developed product must be ready for sale on the market.

It is reported that Siemens Healthineers AG also applied for the German Future Award in 2021. She developed a new technique for creating computed tomography images. Researchers from the University of Münster and the Frauenhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Ecology (IME) also applied for the award. They have created an environmentally friendly alternative to rubber, including for the production of car tires.
