The best photographs of cultural monuments of Ukraine in 2020 have been announced within the framework of the Wiki Loves Monuments competition, the purpose of which is to collect images of all objects of the world's immovable heritage to illustrate articles on Wikipedia and draw attention to the state of preservation of these objects.
This year, a record 47 thousand photographs and videos of Ukrainian cultural monuments were submitted for the competition. During September, 550 authors submitted their works. In terms of the number of photos, Ukraine took first place among 50 participating countries.
Among the 10 winners there are 10 different authors and 9 regions.
The best photo was a snapshot of the Church of St. George, located in the city of Drohobych, Lviv region (top on the page). Photo taken by Olena Kurilo. The photo also won the regional nomination.
The second place is taken by a photo of the Kamyana Mogyla historical and archaeological reserve, located in the village of Myrne, Zaporizhya region. Photo taken by Eldar Sarakhman. Also, this photo became the best among the regional competitors.
Third place receives the evening winter photo of the Intercession Cathedral in Kharkiv. The photo was taken by Kateryna Polishchuk.
The fourth position is given to a photograph of a windmill, which is located in the Museum of Folk Architecture in Pyrogovo. This is also the best photo of Kyiv. It was taken by Ruslan Gribyuk.
The fifth place in the TOP-10 was taken by a photograph of the Honcharska Tower in the city of Kamyanets-Podolsky. Also, the photo became the best in the Khmelnytsky region. The author is Mykola Kalchenko.
The sixth and the best photo of the Donetsk region posesses a photograph of the St. Nicholas Church, which is part of the complex of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra in the city of Svyatogorsk. The photo was taken by Vitaly Bashkatov.
In seventh place is the photograph of the Pototsky mausoleum church in the village of Pechera, Vinnytsia region. This photo also won the regional nomination. The author is Vadym Posternak.
On the eighth place is a panoramic photo of the Church of the Holy Trinity, located in the village of Zenkov, Khmelnytsky region. The author of the picture is Serhiy Zisko.
The ninth place and victory in the nomination for the best photo of the Chernihiv region was given to a photograph of the Trinity-Ilyinsky monastery. Photo taken by Andriy Kazun.
