The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. This was reported by the press service of the university.

The Academic Council of the University adopted the decision on December 20, 2018. In such a way “the community of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy 'has not only paid tribute to the religious service of the Patriarch of the world’s Orthodoxy but, above all, has noted his merits as a scholar especially in the canon law field."

“The Patriarch Bartholomew is an authoritative researcher, a specialist in canon law and an organizer of the international interdisciplinary seminars and symposia, where the leading world scholars participate. He has an honorary doctorate by 30 universities and educational institutions around the world, among them, are Yale and Georgetown universities (USA), University of Athens (Greece), University of London (UK), University of Jerusalem (Israel),” the report said.

The patriarch is also the author of numerous scientific papers.
