The autumn vacations in Kyiv's schools could begin on October 21. City mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said so on Monday.
"Today, schools may develop separate plans of education process and plan the schedule of vacations. But the city [council] already sent recommendations to managers of education facilities, urging them to start the autumn vacation earlier, on October 21. School students are supposed to get back to classes on October 29", he stated.
However, the mayor insisted that the time when the education process resumes is entirely up to the epidemiological situation in the city.
During the last seven days, Ukrainian medics detected a disturbingly growing number of patients with pneumonia. The number made 22,400 new cases over one week. Maksym Stepanov, the Healthcare Minister reported that at a briefing in Kyiv on October 12.
The number of new cases exceeded the maximum so far, which was observed over one week in July (July 13-19); then, the total number of new cases made 4,234, the official said. Thus, the new maximum number of cases is five times the old one.
