Kurz noted such experience in Slovakia, where the authorities tested the majority of the population recently. Dozens of thousands of citizens were sent for quarantine.
“It is an absolute success and we decided to hold a similar event here, in Austria,” Chancellor reported.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Kurz explained that the intention of his government concerns the holding of mass testing among particular groups of population.
“We will apply these mass tests to particular groups, for example, teachers but also to other groups (of the population) to emerge from lockdown (December 7) as safe as it possibly could be,” Kurz said.
According to the Austrian chancellor, quick tests are quite available in the market and in sufficient amount. The government intends to reveal accurate planes on mass testing in a week.
Earlier, a complete lockdown was declared in Austria. According to the current plant, the lockdown starts on November 17 and it will last at least until December 6. Schools and shops will be closed. Moreover, the restrictions for leaving the house will act 24/7. It is allowed to leave house for work, education, address the priority needs, caring for other people and walks or outdoor sports activities.
The supermarkets, shops with goods for house, drug stores and stalls will be open. The schools switch to distance education. Besides, the employees at enterprises should switch to distance work if it is possible.
According to Worldometers, Austria occupies 36th place in the number of people infected Covid-19. 208,613 cases of infection registered in Austria; 1,887 cases are lethal.
As we reported, the Estonian government boosted quarantine measures in this country due to the spread of coronavirus. New restrcitions took effect on Monday, November 16.
