Attack on hotel in Kabul may be qualified as war crime, - UN

Secretary-General of the UN António Guterres condemned the attack on Intercontinental in Kabul, according to the UN News Centre.

Guterres phrased his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

In a separate statement, Tadamichi Yamamoto, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and the head of UNAMA said that it is a “moral outrage that the Taliban entered the hotel with the intention of killing civilians.”

He added that “There is simply no justification for this egregious attack, which is specifically prohibited by International Humanitarian Law and may amount to a war crime.”

According to the information of the Ukrainian MFA, seven Ukrainians died in this attack. Five of them have already been identified. 19 more Ukrainians were rescued. Terrorist group Taliban took responsibility for the attack.
