The national candidate from Ukraine for Oscar award, Atlantis by Valentyn Vasyanovych has joined the long list of the BAFTA awards.
According to Ukraine's State Film Agency, the picture will be competing in 12 categories, as follows:
- Best Film
- Best non-Anglophone film
- Best Director's Work
- Best Original Scenario
- Best Casting
- Best Camerawork
- Best Editing
- Best Music Score
- Best Art Score
- Best Male Main Part (Andriy Rymaruk)
- Best Female Main Part (Lyudmyla Bileka)
- Best Male Secondary Part (Vasyl Antonyak).
The BAFTA awards ceremony is the annual event, the British analogue of Oscar. This edition's winners will be announced on April 11, 2021.
Atlantis is the most anticipated and the most awarded Ukrainian film of the year. The plot unveils in 2025, after the future victory of Ukraine in the war with Russia. Once occupied, Donbas is now part of Ukraine, but its territories are considered unfit for living there. However, there's still a place for new love being born.
All the roles in the film were played by non-professional actors - a former spy, a volunteer of the charity fund helping the army “Come back alive” Andriy Rymaruk, paramedic Lyudmyla Bileka and volunteer Vasyl Antonyak. The shooting process took place in Mariupol (Donetsk region) and Kyiv.
