“An asteroid designated the title 2015 KJ19 is due to come close to Earth,” the statement says.
The asteroid measures 118 metres in length, making it about the same size as a standard football pitch. According to analysis from NASA, the asteroid will fly by our planet at 23 kilometres per second. This translates to more than 82,000 kilometres per hour. At that speed, the asteroid would be able to travel around Earth twice in an hour.
The maximum distance at which the space stone will approach the Earth is about 5,8 million km.
The US agency said that neither its size nor its distance to Earth poses a threat to the planet.
As it was reported earlier, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has revealed the first data on weather conditions on the Red Planet after the landing of the Perseverance rover in the Jezero Crater.
