The Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Ukraine will gather near the Verkhovna Rada to protest against the sale of land. The rally is slated for Tuesday, December 17. Mykola Stryzhak, President of the Association of Farmers and Private Land Owners of Ukraine reported that.
"Dear Ukrainians! You know that President Zelensky decided to sell all the agricultural land of Ukraine. He plans to do this by the New Year, not taking into account the Constitution," the document says as published on the website.
Strizhak recalled that agricultural land accounted for 72% of the territory of Ukraine. "And in the conditions of a ruined economy and war, putting up the territory of your state for sale means selling Ukraine", he said.
“To sell its sovereignty, its independence, its fate hundreds of years in advance. You know that under the Constitution, the exclusive right to dispose of land ownership belongs to all of us - the Ukrainian people and not temporary people in power. Therefore, pass laws on the sale of agricultural land without holding An all-Ukrainian referendum is prohibited in the Constitution, but Vladimir Zelensky decided to sell the land without consulting people, and he knows that more than 70% of Ukrainians strongly oppose the sale of agricultural land. Because we fought for our land for too long, shed too much blood for the right to be the master on our own land, but knowing that people are against it, he still sells land. The reason is that he acts not in the interests of the people, but in interests of external speculators and the local land mafia. It acts contrary to the interests of Ukraine. These actions directly threaten the national, including food security of the state. They destroy the national farmer and the Ukrainian village. At a time when the United Nations identified hunger as the biggest threat in the world, its actions deprive Ukrainians of the quality food and income that our land can bring. We and the country are being deprived of the future," - the statement says.
As we reported, protesters have surrounded the parliamentary building in Kyiv, thus protesting against the land reform supported by Ukrainian MPs.
