Armenian musician and composer, outstanding duduk master Jivan Gasparyan has died. The artist’s grandson posted this on Facebook.

“The world has suffered an unimaginable loss today. Not only an icon but a beautiful soul. May he rest in peace,” Jivan Gasparyan Jr. wrote.

The death cause is unknown. The artist was 92 years old.

Jivan Gasparyan was born on October 12, 1928, in the village of Solak, the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. At the age of six, he began to play the duduk on his own. He later became one of the most famous performers of music on this instrument.

In the 1980s, Gasparyan went to the United States, where he performed compositions on the duduk, in particular, for movies. His sounds can be heard in ‘Gladiator’, ‘The Da Vinci Code’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’.

Gasparyan is the winner of four UNESCO gold medals.

As it was reported earlier, on July 5, 82-years-old Russian director Vladimir Menshov died of a coronavirus. In late June, it became known that Menshov had mild symptoms of COVID-19.
