If a person has antibodies to other types of coronaviruses, they protect during the infection with Covid-19 and provide mild disease. It can also be the reason for asymptomatic coronavirus. The researchers from the University of Barcelona made such conclusions as Nature Communication reported.
“Combined with the observation that higher baseline anti-HCoV N antibody levels correlated with less de novo anti-SARS-CoV-2 N antibody production, we propose a protective effect of previous exposure to HCoVs, which could be the result of a diminished exposure (decreased viral load) due to the suggested protective role of anti-HCoV antibodies,” the message says.
During the research, the scientists tried to establish the time the antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 stay in the blood. At the beginning of the experiment, 13.5% of partakers of the experiment had antibodies; 16.4% in six months. The level of the antibodies mostly was stable during the whole period of time.
During the research, the scientists analyzed the antibody levels against HCoV N antigens prior to and after SARS-CoV-2 infection in the 33 participants who seroconverted during the study period.
