December 19, US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of US troops from Syria. He explained that the Islamic State terrorist group has been crushed and the US goals in Syria have been fulfilled.

US officials say that a withdrawal of more than 2,000 troops will take from 60 to 100 days. Most of the US military bases in Syria are in the north, in areas controlled by Kurdish militias, who actively cooperated with the United States in the fight against the Islamists.
