Two cases of infection with the new coronavirus variant are observed in the UK. People who contacted travelers to South Africa are infected as BBC reported citing Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock.
“The UK has detected two cases of another new variant of coronavirus, the health secretary Matt Hancock says,” the message reports.
The cases in London and north west England are tied with contacts with people who traveled to South Africa, where the new variant of the coronavirus was spotted.
The UK made a decision to introduce restrictions for the travels of the citizens to South Africa.
All citizens who visited the country during the past two weeks and everyone who had contacts with them are recommended to hold the self-isolation urgently.
It is noted that the new variant of the coronavirus is still analyzed but there is information that it is spreading faster.
Firstly, it was detected in the UK on December 22.
The World Health Organization urged Europeans to strengthen approaches to control and prevent the spread of the virus due to the appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in some European countries.
Besides, the new variant of coronavirus is observed in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Australia.
Over 40 countries in the world banned travelers from the UK from entry to their territories due to concerns about the spread of a new coronavirus strain. Spain, India, Hong Kong, and Pakistan are some of the last countries that banned the admission of flights from the UK. The list of countries that banned the entrance from the UK includes Belgium, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, and others. Some of the bans already act; others will start to act today.
