The International Editorial Board of NewsOne TV channel states that the extraordinary checks of the channel's activity, ordered by the National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting is a new attack on the freedom of speech in Ukraine and the attempt to apply pressure on the independent media. The government agency once again showed its biased attitude to this medium, neglecting the legal norms and procedures. This is mentioned in the official statement of the Board.
The International Editorial Board expressed the revolt about the unprecedented decision of the National Council, once again demanding that the state leaders assess the events concerning NewsOne TV channel and judge the agency's biased actions.
"We ask to pay attention to the work of the National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting. Members of the agency make the politically motivated decision, which wasn't even on the agenda. Besides, the trumped-up arguments of checks (based on the statements of blogger Ruslan Kotsaba who was the guest speaker on the channel) do look cynical. We hope that the National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting begins to work as the authority aiming to develop journalism and media in Ukraine instead of hindering the work of TV channels with the million-worth audience, as the freedom of speech and rights of citizens are the main indicator of democratic development and maturity of the government", the statement says.
NewsOne's International Editorial Board includes MEPs Nathan Gill, David Coburn (UK) and Dr. Maximilian Kra (Germany).
