'A local resident was noticed of the suspicion in committing a crime (...), the deliberate abuse of an American Staffordshire Terrier dog by inflicting multiple wounds with a garden pitchfork, which crippled the dog', reads the message.
The man faces up to six months in prison or three years of restriction of liberty. The pre-trial investigation is underway.
As we reported, over the first six months of the year, the Ukrainian police registered 154 cases under the fact of animal abuse. The majority of those were opened in Kyiv and Sumy region, northern Ukraine; Prosecutor General's Office reported that in the official request filed by UNN news agency.
According to the authority, in June and July, 15 cases were initiated in Kyiv alone; two of those are now closed. Another two of ten cases are closed in Sumy region; the rest are being investigated. In general, 57 cases were closed all over Ukraine during the said period.
Not a single documented case of animal abuse was reported in Khmelnytsky region, central Ukraine; one case was opened in each of the five following regions - Zhytomyr, Luhansk, Chernihiv, Ternopil and Chernivtsi.
