The ancient amphitheater and artifacts are found out during the refurbishment of the Vorontsov Palace complex in Odesa. The Chief of the operation and technical department of the Department of Major Construction of Odesa City Council Olga Buts reported this at the briefing on July 5. UNIAN reported this.
‘The experts found the half-round steps that suppose the presence of the amphitheater at the bottom of the colonnade in earlier times. Also, the walls and the stairs of two passes are found’, the message says.
Moreover, the experts found the elements of plates and other household items that were used in first half of the 19th century.
At the moment the archeologists work at the place and the recording of the elicited artifacts is kept.
Buts explained that initially the refurbishment project did not provide such volume of the work but the experts found the originality of the colonnade during the damp course of the basement and decided to dig down to the basement’.
According to the Chief of the Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation of the City Council Andrey Shelyugin, the lowering of the earth to the mark of the 19th century was elicited in the process of the refurbishment of the Belvedere colonnade of the Vorontsov Palace complex. The range of the meaningful archeological evidence is found out in the layer of the material debris formed after the Orlov facility of the Vorontsov Palace. There are the fragments of the slate, gravestones and ceramic tartar tile.
Also, the underground constructions that should be the basements of the facility are found. At the moment, the removal works are held.
