The State Bureau of Investigations notified Ukraine's Air Force Commander-in-Chief Serhiy Drozdov of suspicion with negligence, which led to the tragedy of An-26 aircraft in Kharkiv region in September. Vadym Pryimachok, the head of the SBI department said so at a briefing.
Notification letters of suspicion were also handed over to flight dispatcher of Chuguiv airfield, and to the unit commander who approved the flight plan that contained violations.
The investigation found out that there were unauthorized people aboard the plan. Neither the captain nor the pilots had any experience in piloting the plane in the night time, said Vadym Pryimachok.
The SBI claims that the investigation actions allowed to get "overwhelming evidence", which points out to numerous breaches of rules of flights and rules of operation.
The agency says that the suspects have not been detained yet. The examining judge is to decide what kind of restriction measures should be chosen; he still has to coordinate his decision with the assessment of prosecutor and the pre-trial investigation agency.
The suspects face from seven to fifteen years behind the bars.
Antonov An-26 airplane fell and caught fire near Chuguiv, Kharkiv region, in September 2020. According to preliminary estimates of flight safety specialists, one of the sensors in the left engine of the aircraft failed. None of those aboard the plane survived the crash.
