Amina Okueva street appears in Kyiv

The famous military volunteer, doctor, Donbas conflict participant was killed in Kyiv region in autumn 2017

Kyiv city council decided to rename 40 streets in the Ukrainian capital within the decommunization campaign. One of the streets will be now named after Amina Okueva, the military volunteer and doctor. 

This is mentioned on the city administration's website. 

Panelna Street will be renamed after Andriy Abolmasov, another volunteer and Donbas war veteran who lost his life in combat in that conflict. Other streets will be bearing the names of Volodymyr Horovyts, Atena Pashko, Valeryan Pidmohylny, Marusya Churay and other famous Ukrainian figures.

The decommunization laws in Ukraine took effect in May 2015. These bills ban any propaganda and display of Soviet and Nazi symbols.

In February 2018, the-then leader of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Volodymyr Vyatrovych said the decommunization process in Ukraine was practically over.
