In connection with the search on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, the Ambassador of Ukraine Ihor Kyzym sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. The Ukrainian Embassy in Minsk stated this in a commentary to Radio Liberty.
Kyzym filed a complaint in connection with the violation of the Vienna Convention, which provides for the inviolability of property and transport of diplomats.
This is the case that happened to the ambassador last week, when he crossed the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, returning from Kyiv to Minsk after consultations.
At the border, the diplomat warned the Belarusian border guards that their requirements did not comply with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and promised to write a note to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry in case of its violation. However, this did not stop the border guards.
They searched the ambassador's car. On September 11, the Border Committee of Belarus published a video of the inspection of Ihor Kyzym's car, denying violations of the convention.
The Ukrainian ambassador assesses this incident as a bad signal for bilateral relations between Ukraine and Belarus. He noted that this search was carried out in the light of the anti-Ukrainian rhetoric that is now being heard in Belarus.
As we reported before, Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has recalled Ambassador in Belarus Ihor Kyzym for consultations in Kyiv to assess the prospects of the Ukrainian-Belarusian relations
