9,600 tons of ammonium nitrate stored at Yuzhny sea port. It is packed in big bags and safe as the Administration of the Sea Ports of Ukraine reported.
“Totally, 9,600 tons of ammonium nitrate is stored at #1, #2 quays at Yuzhny port according to all norms and standards,” the message said.
Ammonium nitrate is packed in big bags and in such a case it is not explosion-hazardous and it is guaranteed by observation of all technological requirements.
The Administration of the Sea Ports of Ukraine noted that only the overload of ammonium nitrate with bulk may pose a threat but such transshipment method was never used at Yuzhny port.
Earlier, the administration of Mykolaiv sea port stated that 3,200 tons of ammonium nitrate were stored about six months in the port. However, it was taken out in 2019.
On August 4, the video of explosions in Beirut, the capital and the largest city of Lebanon, appeared on social media. The media reported that the number of deceased exceeded 100 people, 4,000 people wounded. The surroundings of the incident city turned into ruins. The explosion took place during the process of welding of the door; the spark flamed and caused the burning of explosives in the hangar. It led to the blast of 2,750 tons of ammonia that equals 1,800 tons of TNT.
