Nikolai Karachentsov, the famous Russian artist died on Friday morning. His family officially confirmed this, saying that the artist deceased in the intensive care unit of Moscow's 62nd Hospital, at 8.50 a.m. Moscow time.
Karachentsov passed away the day before his 74th birthday.
The great Soviet and Russian actor was born in Moscow on October 27, 1944. In 1963, he entered the Moscow Art Theatre School, which he graduated with honors. His career included dozens of roles in theatre and cinema. The most famous theatrical work of Karachentsov is the role of Count Rezanov in the rock opera Juno and Avos (1981). He was widely known for performing all his stunts by himself - even the craziest and the most dangerous ones.
On February 28, 2005, Karachentsov was driving to Moscow in a hurry after finding out about the death of his mother-in-law. Due to his hurry, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a street light pole, suffering a severe brain injury. After a month-long coma, he began regaining motor skills, finally being able to get up onto a stage and talk to an audience in 2007. Even though he partially recovered, Karachentsov was still severely disabled after the accident.
In 2017, he was diagnosed with cancer. Over his last year, he was practically bedridden.
Karachentsov is survived by his wife, son and three grandchildren.
