About two dozen chemical and dangerous objects work in Kyiv. People, who live near them, stay in the zone of potential risk as Ukraine 24 TV channel reported citing Head of Kyiv Communal Emergency and Rescue Service Dmytro Pykhalo.
“About 18 chemical and dangerous objects function in Kyiv; mostly, chlorine and ammonia are used at them. Besides, there are some nitrogen enterprises. People, who live in the zone of possible affection, are in the risk zone,” Pykhalo said.
People who live near such objects are warned that if they hear the alarm, they should close windows and turn on the radio or TV to hear the message about further actions.
According to the rescuer, Kyiv citizens often appeal to them when they smell something chemical.
“We have many such calls – the neighbors dispute and spill sal-ammoniac on the doors. Our mobile laboratory comes, hold measuring for the presence of chemical agents,” he explained.
As it was reported earlier, on July 20, there was an explosion at Rivneazot, the nitrogen plant in Rivne city. An orange cloud covered the city. No one was injured in the blast. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, no chemically dangerous substances were detected in the air as a result of the accident.
As we reported, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine claimed that the cause of the accident at the Rivneazot nitrogen plant may be the inconsistency between the pipeline material and the stated characteristics of the manufacturer.
