The mosaic is called "Faces of War"; as for the artist, face of war is “the face of cynical tyrannical politician Vladimir Putin”. The installation was created with the shell casings taken from different parts of the front. More than 5 thousand muffs of different calibers of different weapons (AK-47, AGS-17, Makarov pistol, KPV heavy machine gun and others) were used.
Unique of its kind, it is the only mosaic in the world with such a technique and style, made of shell casings.
“The installation has been created in response to the events of 2014 in Ukraine, when Russia demonstrated its aggression and attacked the eastern part of the country, creating the largest armed conflict in Europe since the Second World War and jeopardizing global security,” tells Daria Marchenko on her site.
“This mosaic has an extraordinary peculiarity, it changes the color and facial expressions, depending on the light. Portrait is an accumulation of characters, fate, fear, pride, cruelty and hatred, sorrow and confusion, the willingness to destroy the world… In fact, this portrait represents the diversity of emotions of the war” she notes.
“Each muff from the portrait is a soldier’s fate, it could take or save a his life,” says the artist.
