Over 9,000 people got sick with influenza in Kyiv. The education process in schools is suspended in 120 schools across the city. The press office of Kyiv city state administration reported that over the last week alone, 290 people were hospitalized. Most of them were children. Previously, schools were temporarily closed in six regions of Ukraine due to the quarantine. This concerns Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zakarpattya regions.
Earlier, Ukrainian medics confirmed another death from influenza-related complications. A 51-year-old woman, the resident of the Zaporizhya region succumbed to pneumonic fever, which is a common complication of influenza. This became the 14th lethal case from influenza in Ukraine since the beginning of the current epidemic season.
The total number of influenza-struck patients in Ukraine currently makes two million people. The quarantine is now set in all schools in Odesa, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy. Some schools are closed in Donetsk, Luhansk, Sumy, Vinnytsia and Volyn regions. 39 schools are temporarily shut down in Kyiv and Rivne region. The quarantine is expected to last for about two weeks.
