8th Odesa International Film Festival winds up

The winners were announced, and Isabelle Huppert and Agnieszka Holland received Golden Duke awards for lifetime achievement

Odesa International Film Festival

The 8th Odesa International Film Festival ended up. The Grand Closing Ceremony of the 8th OIFF took place at the Odesa Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre on July 22. 

The closing ceremony began with the performance of the Ukrainian ballet troupe D'Arts Dance Project. 

The main prize – the Grand Prix – based on the results of the audience vote was awarded to the film “King of the Belgians” by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth. Director Roman Bondarchuk became the recepient of the Golden Duke’ for the film “Dixie Land” in the nomination “Best Feature Film”. “The Leading Role” by Serhiy Bukovsky became the best documentary. Isabelle Huppert and Agnieszka Holland received awards for their contribution to cinema.

Among the other winners of the 8th OIFF in 2017 are:

Grand Prix Golden Duke (audience voting): King of Belgians (Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, 2016)

Best Picture: Summer (Spain, 2017)

Best Director: Nana Ekvtimishvili, Simon Gross for the film My Happy Family (Georgia, Germany, France, 2017)

Best Acting: Ia Shugashvili, Tsisia Qumsashvili for the roles in My Happy Family (Germany, France 2017)

Special Mention by International Competition Jury: Free and Easy (China, 2017)

Golden Duke for the Best Ukrainian feature: Dixie Land, (Ukraine, Latvia, Germany, 2016)

Golden Duke for the Best European Documentary: The Leading Role (Ukraine, 2016)

Duke for the Best Ukrainian Short: Graduation’97 (Ukraine, 2016)

Award for the Best Acting (National Competition): Nina Antonova for the role in The Leading Role (Ukraine, 2016)

Special Mention of the National Competition Jury: The Strayed (Ukraine, 2017)

Special Mention of the National Competition Jury: Lilac (Ukraine, 2017)

FIPRESCI Prize for the Best Ukrainian feature: Black Level (Ukraine, 2016)

FIPRESCI Prize for the Best Ukrainian short: Lilac (Ukraine, 2017)

Prize of $ 2,000 in equivalent of flights via UIA from the Official Carrier of the Odesa Film Festival, Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) for the Best WORK IN PROGRESS project: "Volcano", dir. Roman Bondarchuk

Prize from the UDP company for the Best Ukrainian film project presented at the Pitching (60 000 UAH): "The Floor is Lava" (director Kateryna Gornostai) and "My thoughts are silent" (director Antonio Lukich)

The Best Comedy Screenplay Contest: "Accursed Mountains" (Croatia, script Dorotea Vucic, Visna Mamic)
