More than 80,000 foreigners became students of Ukrainian universities in 2019. This was stated by acting Minister of Education Lubomyra Mandzii in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

"In 2019, 80,470 (70,696 basic education) students from 158 countries entered Ukrainian universities," said a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science.

The biggest problem for foreign students during the pandemic is the closed border. If the incidence exceeds 40 people per 100,000 population, the country is forced to close its borders. However, Ukraine is not unique in this situation.

"However, the admission campaign, for example, to Polish universities is also postponed," Mandzii added.

As we reported earlier, on June 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the establishment of the Council for the development of higher education.

The task of the Council will be to improve the quality and content of higher education in Ukraine, to prepare proposals on improving the legislation on the financial autonomy of higher education institutions among foreign students.
