587 convicted soldiers of the armed Donbas Conflict were pardoned in Ukraine in 2017 as Ukrainian News reported citing the State Court Administration.

The law on amnesty worked from September 7 until December 7, 2017.

‘587 persons (from 617 convicted) that protected the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity of Ukraine, took part in the Donbas Conflict and stayed in the zone of the armed Donbas Conflict and got the status of the partakers of the combat actions were released’, the message said.

Also, it is reported 189 veterans of war (from 202 convicted) that fall under the law ‘On the status of the veterans of war, guarantees of social protection’ were released.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Amnesty law in 2016 by the request of the leaders of the churches and Heroes of Ukraine.
