September 4 a gala evening with restored version preview will take place in “Ukraina” cinema hall in Kyiv. 50 years ago it was premiered at this very place. This day the restored version of the film will be available for preview in major cities of Ukraine in open air and local cinemas.
Also on September 11, the Day of Ukrainian, a film ceremony will be held at Dovzhenko National Film Studio, and at the end of October thematic exhibition at the National Art Museum of Ukraine is scheduled.
“Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”, a coloured film from one of the most famous film director in post-war Soviet Union, was released in 1965. Got a Grand Prix at Mar del Plata International Film Festival in 1965.It is highly symbolic, making frequent use of religious and folkloric images that include crosses, lambs, graves, and spirits. The film is set among the Hutsul people of the Western Ukraine, an isolated ethnic group who live in the upper reaches of the mountain range. Their lives take place within a harsh environment and an ornate cultural system little changed since the 18th century.
