The threat and internet trolling are the main danger, which the female journalists face during the work in Ukraine as the Institute of Mass Information (IMI) reported after holding of the anonymous questionnaire.
“According to the results of the questionnaire, 47% female journalists, who work in Ukraine, have faced the physical abuse (threats, attacks) due to their professional activity. Only 17% of them appealed to the law enforcement bodies for defense,” the message said.
Particularly, the respondents mentioned that mostly they faced threats (73%) and surveillance (10%); they faced attacks (4%) and other kinds of pressure lesser.
The female journalists also mentioned the circumstances of the facing the attacks, threats and other obstacles. It turned out that the majority of the respondents suffered the threats covering the conflict issues (42%), protests (32%), during the interviews with people in power.
The IMI experts also draw attention to the fact that 10% of the respondents pointed out that they suffered in the editorial office of their agency.
The questionnaire showed that 41% of women do not feel safe, working in the media sphere.
The research took place by questionnaire. 232 female journalists were involved in it, including 84% representatives from the regions of Ukraine and 16% from Kyiv.
As we reported 86 cases of the use of the force against the journalists were spotted in Ukraine in 2018.
Earlier we reported that 94 journalists and media workers were killed while on duty in the world in 2018 and it is 12 persons more than that in 2017.
