45 pupils, pregnant teacher sickened with measles in Ukraine's Chernivtsi region

In Rukshyna village, Chernivtsi region, 45 pupils and a pregnant teacher got sick with measlesTSN reported.

At the moment, eight children are at the hospital in the moderate state. Other diseased receive outpatient treatment.

“The youngest patients are the pupils of the first grade and the oldest ones are the high school pupils. They have such symptoms as fever, headache, signs of pinkeye, vomiting and general weakness,” Alla Yakovenko, the Deputy Chief Physician of Khotyn Central Regional Hospital said.

Later it turned out that the majority of the affected were not vaccinated.

The first case of the disease was spotted at the school in September 2018. Then the number of the diseased constantly increase, however, the school was closed for quarantine only now. The issue is about quarantine due to the common cold, not due to measles. The number of the diseased exceeded 100 persons.

“The first one was a boy from the first grade. He was visiting friends in Putyla district. Later we got to know that this district suffers from measles. I have been working as a school principal for 23 years and do not remember anything similar, I mean, such a measles outbreak,” Serhiy Shyshkovsky, the principle of Rukshyna school said.

Earlier we reported that in Petranka village, in Ivano-Frankivsk region, 53 children of 5 - 13 years sickened with measles.

Also, 28 children got sick with measles in one of the Vinnytsia region schools. The measles outbreak is connected with the fact that the parents refuse from the vaccination.

It was reported that as of September 12, 30,744 persons have been sickened with measles since the beginning of 2018.
