The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine claimed that 42 citizens of Ukraine were convicted and 78 Ukrainians are under the investigation in Greece due to the accusation of the transfer of the illegal migrant. Sergy Pohoreltsev, the Director-General of Directorate General for consular service claimed this as Ukrainian news reported.
'Totally, 120 citizens of Ukraine are convicted or under investigation. At least 120 because the dynamics are negative enough. The number of the Ukrainian citizens detained or convicted for the transportation of the illegal migrants is increasing and the issue is systematic', Pohoreltsev said.
According to him, the consuls provide all possible support to the convicted citizens. In 2016, the Consul of Ukraine to Greece or the workers of the consular service visited the convicted at the detention centers of Greece 12 times, 26 times in 2017 and two times since the beginning of 2018.
The consul will participate in the court session toward three detainees due to the accusation of the transport of the illegal migrants on February 8.
Pohoreltsev also emphasized that the translators or defense were present at all court session on the cases of the Ukrainians.
Also, the convicted or accused get the legal aid and basic supplies.
