12,000 out of 30,000 public catering enterprises have been liquidated as business entities since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated in an interview by MP Mykyta Poturaev (Servant of the People faction) with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to data on hotels, restaurants, and cafes, before quarantine, we had 30,000 catering establishments: from a small cafe/bar to a large restaurant. 12,000 of these 30,000 were liquidated. Not in the sense of being closed for lockdown, but in the sense of eliminated as enterprises," he said.

The MP admits that this might be due to the failed first voting for the “anti-crisis budget” since the package that was associated with the budget had the corresponding legislative basis for launching the force majeure procedure.

"So people could close entities because they are not able to fulfill their lease obligations," the MP added.

According to Poturaev, part of the liquidated enterprises may return to their activities after quarantine.

"Perhaps one of these 12,000 liquidated enterprises will return, but we do not know how much, and this is a problem," the MP noted.
