Ukraine received 367,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, which was manufactured in South Korea. The medication was delivered within the COVAX global initiative. Press office of Ukraine's Healthcare Ministry reported that on Friday.
This batch of the vaccine that was brought to Ukraine by UNICEF and the World Health Organization will be used for vaccination of priority groups - people aged above 65 and those waiting for their second shot of this vaccine (specifically, the people who were vaccinated in February).
"Having lived up to commitments before the global mechanism, Ukraine gets the first batch that will be immediately handed over to the respective categories [of people]", said Viktor Lyashko, Deputy Healthcare Minister and Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine.
The Ministry added that Ukraine gets the vaccines under this initiative for free. By the end of the year, COVAX is supposed to bring enough vaccine to inoculate eight million Ukrainians.
The AstraZeneca vaccine from Korea was registered in Ukraine on April 21. The Healthcare Ministry claims that AstraZeneca and CoviShield vaccines are totally identical.
