There are about 346,000 people across Ukraine who use drugs via injections. Iryna Ivanchuk, the head of the Replacement Therapy Sector of the Centre for Public Health of Ukraine's Healthcare Ministry said this as quoted by the Ministry's press service.
According to Ivanchuk, among such kinds of drugs are mostly opiates or stimulators. She added that most of the affected are the young people of the employable age; the majority of those already have the addiction.
'At the same time, we understand that over the past few years, the stage in this area has been changing; new psychoactive substances emerge, which is why the number of individuals who use these substances other way than by injections,' she said.
Ivanchuk also insisted that citizens need full access to preventive action programs, HIV diagnostics, and the treatment aimed to prevent the negative consequences of the drug use.
The Global Commission on Drug Trafficking is convinced that drug use became a problem only after it was transferred to the category of illegal things. So, according to studies of the early twentieth century, three quarters of people who used opiates and drugs on the basis of cocaine had stable and respectable job.
