Up to 33,000 people could die from coronavirus in Ukraine by the end of the year. This is mentioned in the forecast of Kyiv School of Economics (KSE).

According to the paper, by January 2020, the number of victims in this country could make from 17,000 to 33,000 people. Everything depends on the quarantine scenario:

  • Green scenario: the most optimistic. It's the least likely scenario under current circumtsances. 17,000 deaths might occur if the immediately imposed total lockdown works.
  • Yellow scenario: 26,000 victims. That is possible if the weekend quarantine works.
  • Black scenario: 33,000 victims. Possible if the lockdown does not work.

The biggest load of beds in hospitals is possible in December 2020. KSE recommends to expand quarantine restrictions, currently known as weekend quarantine - up to the total lockdown.
