220 servicemen of Ukraine's Armed Forces were killed in the Battle of Ilovaisk that took place in Donbas in August 2014. Another 44 were wounded, and 40 more went missing in action; 13 fighters are still in captivity of Russian mercenaries. The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that as quoted by BBC Ukraine.
In August 29, 2014, Ukrainian troops liberated the city in Donetsk region. But soon after that, they found themselves encircled by Russian army units. Ukraine and Russia's military command agreed that the encircled soldiers would safely withdraw across the 'green corridor'.
However, it turned into a bloodbath, as the enemy opened fire on Ukrainian fighters that proceeded across the corridor. That particular attack resulted in 129 people killed, 18 wounded, and another 22 were considered missing in action.
The General Staff admitted that the numbers do not include the casualties among the volunteer battalions of Ukraine's Interior Ministry that fought alongside the Ukrainian army in 2014.
