The body of the lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was found in an abandoned lock-up garage on the territory of the military camp in Brovary city, Kyiv region. The press office of the Military Prosecutor's office of the Central Region of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
‘The investigation established that the deceased was assigned to daily duty from October 6 to 7 as an assistant of duty military unit in accordance with the order of the Commander of the military unit. On October 6 at 8 a.m., the serviceman didn't show up for the relief of the guard of the daily duty, accordingly, the commander of the military unit organized searches,’ reads the message.
The 22-year-old officer was found hanged in the lock-up garage on the territory of the military camp. It is reported that a military examiner initially established that the death occurred following mechanical suffocation. No suicide note was found. The body was delivered to the Kyiv City Forensic Medical Bureau.
Chief Military Prosecutor Anatolii Matios claimed with a reference to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations that 33 militaries took their own life from the beginning of 2018. Most of the incidents occurred in the hostilities zone.
Reportedly, 518 servicemen out of 313 thousand committed suicide.
