The large-scale fires in the Luhansk region cause a threat to 22 settlements, the press service of the State Emergency Service (SES) reports.
"The most difficult situation has developed along the demarcation line from Stanytsia-Luhanska to Severodonetsk, where forest fires are threatening for 22 settlements," the statement reads.
Rescuers add that the spread of the fire had been caused by the strong gusts of wind. 1,229 people and 204 units of equipment are involved in extinguishing the fire.
Tetiana Pohukai, a spokeswoman for the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Luhansk region, added that 12 victims had been hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
As we reported earlier, as of 07:00 am on October 1, 2020, 146 fires were registered in the Luhansk region, 82 of them were extinguished.
64 fires are being extinguished at this moment. The settlements of Novoaidarskyi district were the ones that suffered the most.
The criminal proceedings regarding the fires have been initiated under Part 1, 2 of Art. 270 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Violation of fire safety requirements established by law").
