Over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian doctors have reported 213 new cases of coronavirus in this country. Two more patients succumbed to the consequence of the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, Healthcare Ministry reports.
Most of the cases were registered in the capital city Kyiv (71), as well as Odesa (33), Zhytomyr (17), Vinnytsia (14) and Kharkiv (12) regions.
15,795 new tests were run over the last 24 hours; that included 7,562 PCR tests, 1,905 IFA tests, and 6,328 express tests for anti-gene for SARS-CoV-2.
2,248,663 new cases of Covid-19 have been detected in Ukraine since the pandemic began. 2,184,365 have recovered and were discharged from a hospital. 52,849 patients have succumbed to the complications caused by the infection.
Meanwhile, Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi began testing a drug to treat coronavirus. According to The Wall Street Journal, the new medications come as pills; these should be taken once a day. They are supposed to neutralize the virus within five days.
From 50 to 100 volunteers are participating in this campaign in Japan; later, the number is supposed to be increased. The tests are supposed to be over by early 2022.
If the tests are successful, Shionogi hopes to launch cooperation with some big international corporation, aiming for distribution of the drugs worldwide.
