Believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate hold the rally near the Ukrainian Parliament's building in Kyiv. 'About two thousand believers of the UOC are now taking part in the standing in prayer near the Verkhovna Rada. The Orthodox Ukrainians pray Our Lady', the message says.
The worshippers are praying for 'those chosen by the people to stop interfere with the church's internal affairs and do not pass the laws aimed at the discrimination of the believers of the UOC and the limitation of their constitutional rights for the freedom of religious beliefs', the office says.
The believers protest against the bills No.No. 4128, 4511, 5309. They change the subordination of religious communities and the status and name of the Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate.
Earlier on Thursday, the morning session in the Ukrainian Parliament ended up in a fight. The squabble occurred after the voting on the law on the registration of religious organizations in Ukraine. The law also changed the name of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. Some of the MPs of pro-Russian political forces clashed with their opponents from pro-Ukrainian and pro-European parties.
