Turkish special forces detained at least 207 people during demonstrations, which escalated into clashes with police, in Istanbul on Monday, May 1. This was reported by Reuters, referring to the press service of Istanbul authorities.

"A total of 207 people have been detained; some 40 Molotov cocktails, 17 hand grenades and 176 fireworks had been confiscated. Illegal posters were also seized," the announcement reads.



It is noteworthy that May 1st demonstrations in Turkey are followed by protest actions every year. This year authorities prohibited any demonstrations at Taksim Square, which is a symbolic place for activists. However, part of the protesters still went to the square, police was stopping them by using rubber bullets and tear gas.
