As of October 28, 20 cases of diphtheria, including 18 cases in October, are registered in Ukraine. Five cases are laboratory-confirmed: in Luhansk, Khmelnytsk, Zakarpattia, Ternopil, and Kyiv regions as the Public Health Center of the Healthcare Ministry reported.
As of October 1, 59.5% of children from one-year-old are vaccinated in Ukraine and 52.3% from the number provided by the planned vaccination. According to the health center, only 200.000 children from one up to 1.5-years-old were vaccinated during the mentioned period of time.
The health center reminds us that the only way to protect from diphtheria and prevent the development of dangerous complications is the vaccination of children and the revaccination of the adults every ten years. Ukraine is provided by the doses of vaccines against diphtheria in sufficient numbers in all regions.
As we reported earlier, 15 university students from Uzhgorod (western Ukraine) experienced symptoms of diphtheria. Earlier, the case of diphtheria of a schoolchild was confirmed in Kyiv. Another two cases were spotted in Uzhhorod.
