193 people died in car accidents in Ukraine in January

In the first month of 2018 in Ukraine, there were 10,425 car accidents in which  1,477 people were injured or killed, the National Police told 112.ua.

193 people died in car accidents in January, while 1,907 more were injured. The statistics don’t include the annexed Crimea, nor the occupied parts Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 

Most accidents were reported in the capital - 2,604. Twelve people died on the roads of Kyiv in January, while 161 more were injured.

The smaller number of accidents occurred in Luhansk (72) and Kirovohrad (86) regions. 

It is worth pointing out that in the 11 months of 2017, there have been some 146,000 car accidents in Ukraine, in which over 3,000 people died and over 31,000 were injured.

To counter the dangerous situation on the roads, the speed limit in populated areas was reduced to 50 km/h starting Jan. 1.
