17.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been collected in Ukraine's underground gas storages. Thus, the government plan has been outstripped. However, Naftogaz-Ukraine company plans to add 1.5 billion cubic meters more to reach the total of 18 billion. Yuriy Vitrenko, the CEO fo the company claimed that as cited by Naftogaz's press office.

"The government defined that by the beginning of the heating season, we need to collect 17 billion cubic meters of gas in the underground storages. We already approach the amount of 18 billion cubic meters. But in order to pass the heating season without any issues, we want to pump even more", Vitrenko said.

This year, Naftogaz plans to collect more than 19 billion cubic meters of gas. 

"If necessary, we will be able to support the needs of electricity output, if the gas is needed for production of electric power", Vitrenko explained.

Earlier, the official ruled out that Ukraine would purchase gas from Russia directly
